Research-based archaeology

A research-based archaeological excavation is part of a scientific research project and often corresponds to a long-term campaign, structured according to precise research objectives. Planned excavations are not urgent in nature and may take a long time to be completed.

As with preventive excavations, research-based excavations are subject to authorisation by the Ministry of Culture. INRA, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, processes requests for authorisation, evaluates their scientific admissibility and transmits ministerial authorisations.
