Adjacent to classified sites

Project sites that adjoin a site classified as a national monument under the law of 18 July 1983, or that border a building designated as a national cultural heritage site under the law of 25 February 2022, are considered part of the archaeological observation zone or its sub-zone.

Such construction and development projects shall be assessed in accordance with article 4 of the Law of 25 February  2022 on cultural heritage.

For further guidance, refer to the procedure titled  "Evaluation of a project in the archaeological observation zone".

All new development projects allocated adjacent to a listed building must receive prior authorisation from the Minister of Culture. The application for authorisation must be submitted to the Minister of Culture before work begins.

Once authorised, the project must be carried out under the supervision of the Institut national pour le patrimoine architectural (National Institute for Architectural Heritage, INPA) or - if the listed building forms part of the archaeological heritage - the Institut national de recherches archéologiques (National Institute for Archaeological Research, INRA),
